Months later, Holmes' brother Mycroft refers a case to him: Lady Carmichael's husband, Sir Eustace Carmichael, received a threatening warning in the form of an envelope full of orange pips. When the bride apparently returns to murder other men, he deduces that these are copycat crimes. Confused, Holmes loses interest in the case. At the morgue, Dr. Hooper informs Holmes that the woman who killed herself, the woman who murdered Mr. Ricoletti and the body on hand have all been positively identified as Emelia Ricoletti. Fascinated by Emelia's apparent survival, Holmes takes the case. Later that evening, Mr. Ricoletti was confronted by Emelia, who shot him dead before disappearing into the fog. In 1895, Inspector Lestrade arrives and presents Holmes and Watson with a puzzling case: Emelia Ricoletti, a consumptive bride, had fired on by-passers in the street from a balcony before fatally shooting herself. Holmes invites Watson to share his new flat in Baker Street, which Watson accepts. Watson is introduced to Sherlock Holmes by a fellow student of Bart's, and becomes interested in his investigative principles. John Watson has been medically discharged from the Army and moves to London. The plot revolves around Victorian England and the present day.

The episode won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie, the first win of the series in that category. The story also draws on elements of original Conan Doyle stories of Holmes such as " The Five Orange Pips" (1891) and " The Final Problem" (1893). The title is based on the quote "Ricoletti of the club foot and his abominable wife" from " The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual" (1893), which refers to a case mentioned by Holmes. It depicts the characters of the show in an alternative timeline: the Victorian London setting of the original stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. Crazy, fun, Gothic, energetic, waited a long time, and it was worth the wait. The scenes between Holmes and Moriarty once again were simply amazing, Andrew Scott is just unbelievable, he is such a charismatic performer. Cumberbatch was definitely on fine form, I loved the altered appearance, suited him, I noticed a few Jeremy Brettisms, not sure if anyone else did, maybe the hair and some of the body language. It managed to feel fresh and exhilarating once again. Beautiful cinematography, great direction, awesome production values. A few minor quibbles, a little contrived at times, and as is the nature of the show it did seem a little wrapped up in its own smuggness at times, but I was utterly enveloped in the story, it had me wrapped from start to finish. Series 3 had been somewhat of a disappointment, a little too self satisfied I suppose, so I'm glad they did something different to refresh it, it was certainly different. I must admit I have been hugely looking forward to this, possibly because I was keen to see how the altered setting would work. The duo must uncover how this devious crime was carried out. Sherlock and Watson land in the late Nineteenth Century to solve the case of Emelia Ricoletti, a bride that killed herself, and then later manages to shoot her husband and bring about the death of Lord Carmichael.
